Where should a home weather station be placed?

 


Do you have a weather station, but are struggling to find the perfect spot? With so many houses having different layouts, that can be tough. Here are some tips on where to locate your weather station!

-The optimal spot for most weather stations is near an exterior wall with a window. This is the place where the sensor will most easily get accurate readings. The wall should be facing north so that it gets exposed to sunlight for as long as possible throughout the day.

-If there's no viable space near an exterior wall with a window, try to find one close to a north-facing window in order to get accurate readings.

-If there are no north-facing walls or windows, find the best spot with the most exposure to sunlight. If this is too hard to find, you can buy a weather station where the sensor can be exposed to light through direct sunlight during part of the day.

-You should also make sure that your station will not be exposed to any direct heat sources, such as boiler vents or fireplaces.

-There's no need to install your station in an area where it can be easily knocked over or fall out of sight (like on a bookshelf).

-If you're worried about children stealing your sensor, don't put it on top of the highest shelf in the house. That's the first place kids will think to look for things.

-You should try not to place it under furniture where people will trip over it. It could be placed along the wall of any room, but avoid stairways. By doing so, you'll also minimize the chances of your weather station being stolen.

-Don't put your station on the carpet or next to the curtains.

-Be careful not to place your station near electrical switches, outlets, or other devices that could cause interference.

-If you have an indoor station close to a window or door, be aware of strong winds or heating/cooling vents that could blow the sensor off course.

-It doesn't have to be directly outside of the house. If there are trees, shrubs, bushes or walls around the area where your station is being installed, then this will help slightly. However, if there are high branches or other obstructions then location will still need to be taken into consideration.
